Smart City Expo World Congress 2018

Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC), the main international event on intelligent cities organized by Fira de Barcelona, will celebrate its eighth edition this year under the slogan Cities To Live In to underline the ultimate and common goal of intelligent cities to become more livable places.

From 13 to 15 November, the Gran Via venue will host the largest edition to date, with an expected growth of 20% in exhibition space, which will be extended for the first time to two pavilions.

The congress programme will be restructured into five axes:

  • Digital transformation
  • Urban environment
  • Mobility
  • Governance and
  • Finance

Also, will address issues such as 5G and the future of connectivity, gentrification, innovative transport systems, and the collaborative and circular economy, among others.

Among the more than 700 companies that will participate in the 2018 edition are Cisco, Deutsche Telekom, Engie, Huawei, Mastercard, Microsoft, SAP, Siemens, Suez and ZTE.

Many cities and countries will exhibit their projects. In its latest edition, SCEWC brought together 700 cities worldwide, as well as 675 exhibitors, 420 speakers and 18,754 attendees from 120 countries.

This year, the event will be held in conjunction with iWater, Smart Mobility World Congress and the Circular Economy European Summit.


SCEWC will also host the Sharing Cities Summit, an international meeting on collaborative economies that will be held for the third time from 13 to 18 November, after earlier in Amsterdam and New York.

It will be organised by Barcelona City Council, the Dimmons research group of the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC), SCEWC, the cities of New York, Amsterdam, Paris and the rest of the Sharing Cities network.
